The CPK (Muscle / Brain) or Creatine Kinase MB (CK-MB) test measures the amount of CK-MB enzyme in the blood. Creatine kinase is present in high concentrations in skeletal and cardiac muscle and, to a lesser extent, in the gastrointestinal tract and brain. An elevated level of CK-MB indicates heart damage or heart attack and calls for urgent medical attention.
