Myoglobin is a protein found in heart and skeletal muscles. When these muscles are injured, this protein gets released into the blood. Myoglobin gets filtered out of the body through kidney. High levels of myoglobin is toxic for the kidney. It can cause kidney damage over time. Therefore myoglobin test is a marker for the detection of both muscle damage or kidney damage.
